IN THE NAME OF LOVE

Writer's picture: BorhanBorhan

The white-spotted pufferfish, like the bowerbird, uses design for romance. Over the course of a week, these tiny fish make an immensely detailed and complex circle of sand that can reach up to two metres in diameter, complete with geometric patterns, shells, and an array of sediments for flashes of colour. They design this art to attract a mate, to bring the next generation of pufferfish into the aquatic world. The ocean floor is their canvas.
